Jayawardene feels Sri Lanka has the right balance

Arjuna Ranatunga the new chairman of 'Sri Lanka Cricket'

1 Jan 01, Colombo: Former Sri Lankan cricket captain and parliamentarian Arjuna Ranatunga has been appointed the chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa handed over the appointment letter this evening at Temple Trees, the President’s Office said.

Murali and Sangakkara stole the limelight in 2007

3 Sri Lanka were able to make giant strides on the cricketing field with their International Cricket Council World Cup campaign in the Caribbean considered as the greatest moment for the year 2007.

Malaysian magic for Malagamuwa

5 Sri Lanka's champion racing driver Dilantha Malagamuwa created more history when he became the first man to clinch the Malaysian Supercar championships twice on Sunday.

Japan-based Malagamuwa who last year became the first non-Malaysian to win the coveted title, retained his trophy at the Sepang Formula One track when he captured the final two races of the season in dominating fashion.

Sri Lankan men's swimmers win three silver medals

SWIMMING: Sri Lanka men's swimmers continued to fare well winning three silver and two bronze medals by Heshan Unamboowe, Chanaka Malimbada 4 x 200 metres free style relay 'quartet', Tuan Nabeel Dole and 4 x 100 metres free style relay in the evening session of the men's swimming event of the 1st South Asia Swimming and Waterpolo Championships held at the Jinnah Sports Complex Swimming Pool here on Thursday evening.

Heshan, gold medal winner in the 200 metres free style open bagged a silver in the first event of the evening session in the 200 metres backstroke clocking 2:12.87 seconds. The second silver was obtained by Chanaka Malimbada in the 200 metres breast stroke open time 2:38.67 secs, Diluka Thibbotumunwe came in fourth 2:41.75 secs. The third silver was in the 4 x 200 metres free style relay men's open.
